This repackage is a focus on romantic ballads. You get well-worn hits like "Love Me Tender, " "Can't Help Falling in Love, " and "Suspicious Minds, " not-so-well-worn hits like "She's Not You, " the original version of "The Girl of My Best Friend " (covered by Ral Donner for a big hit), and other odds and ends on this 22-track compilation. The rarities are a stereo version of "I've Lost You " and a version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water " with the dubbed applause removed. Only regular pilgrims to Graceland need to get in line, but if they're looking for an Elvis collection to create a romantic mood, this isn't too bad a place to start. Heart & Soul often finds Elvis Presley in choirboy-pure form. Though "Anything That's Part of You, " "She's Not You, " and "It Hurts Me " are from the midpoint of his career, they possess a sweetness akin to Frank Sinatra's very early sides. Elsewhere among these 22 tracks are the classic "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You, " which effects a meld of Presley's Dean Martin influences and the metallic clang of the early RCA period that spawned it; the impossibly dramatic "Are You Lonesome Tonight? "; and the later, bittersweet artistic triumph of "Suspicious Minds. " Even those not strictly enamored of the King may find it hard to say no to these masterly performances ~ All Music Guide
