Modern Rock was supposed to capture the "edgier " side to eighties rock. Each volume was a 2-CD set, with 24 total tracks. The first volume of the series was released in July, 1999, followed for some reason by Volume 5. Later CDs were also issued out of catalog-number order, perhaps adding to the edginess of the series for customers.
