http://www.myspace.com/thechainsmtl   Inspired! A new take on 60`s garage, but at the same time, could be a lost Knickerbockers album. What makes this unique is it`s contemporary awareness of melody and a vocalist who sounds like Dave Edmunds. Of course, the requisite vintage instruments are used alongside the warm fuzz, but The Chains superb songwriting is what sets it apart. While the Chains hew closely to the early garage formula -- that is, more jangly than fuzzed-out and tuned down low, and tweaking it enough to make it their own, they breakaway on occasion, as if to prove they're aware it's 2003, not 1966. "Look the Other Way " features a muscular guitar solo that, while welcome, doesn't quite fit. And "It's Not the End " blends Boivin's and Cournoyer's voices in a quasi-ballad that showcases the band's slower side. Clap your hands and shout to the music of The Chains. An incredible debut. A charged piece of rock’n’roll, deftly capable of making dance floors shake, keeping both mods and rockers happy. Echoing the finest moments of Jordan/Wilson era Flamin` Groovies with hints of Rockpile and primo 60s R&B hounds like the Pretties or Stones, and armed with more than enough sonic propellant to keep the garage-niks creaming in their hipsters, this North of the 49th five-piece are - without a single doubt in my mind - gonna be making the top of anybody with any sense`s must have and top-ten lists this year.
