Modern Rock was supposed to capture the "edgier " side to eighties rock. Each volume was a 2-CD set, with 24 total tracks. The first volume of the series was released in July, 1999, followed for some reason by Volume 5. Later CDs were also issued out of catalog-number order, perhaps adding to the edginess of the series for customers. There were 21 volumes in the series altogether.   Various Artists [1999] R828-03 (Universal Music Special Markets 314564684-2) - Modern Rock: 1984-1985 - Various Artists [1999] Disc 1: Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears For Fears/Broken Wings - Mr. Mister/Everytime You Go Away - Paul Young/Talking In Your Sleep - Romantics/Hold Me Now - Thompson Twins/Drive - Cars/Alive And Kicking - Simple Minds/One Night In Bangkok - Murray Head/Things Can Only Get Better - Howard Jones/Obsession - Animotion/You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want) - Joe Jackson/My Ever Changing Moods - Style Council; Disc 2: Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder/Would I Lie To You - Eurythmics/Some Like It Hot - Power Station/Election Day - Aracadia/Be Near Me - ABC/Tenderness - General Public/Sunglasses At Night - Corey Hart/Voices Carry - 'Til Tuesday/Walking On Sunshine - Katrina & Waves/Are We Ourselves? - Fixx/A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing) - Romeo Void/Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly) - Icicle Works Label: Time Life Music, Warner Special Products Catalog#: R828-03 Format: 2 x CD, Compilation Country: US Released: 1999 Genre: Electronic, Rock Style: Alternative Rock, New Wave, Synth-pop Credits: Executive Producer - Robert Hull Mastered By - Dennis Drake Notes: Manufactured for Time-Life Music by Warner Special Products, A Time Warner Company â„— 1999 Warner Special Products
