Evans began playing gigs as an acoustic singer / songwriter, and joined in blues jams in Downtown Manhattan. Evans acknowledges he can always write songs by and for himself: it was the camaraderie and input of a band that he really wanted. Enter Coady and Werner. Coady, a Bronx boy, who describes himself as a "feel and funk player ", states that his main love was always playing live rock 'n' roll. After hearing Evans' songs and jamming on three of them, he instantaneously joined forces with the singer. "It was instinctual, no need to talk. I just said "yes ", recalls Coady. "It's a brotherhood ", Evans adds. Werner, the third piece of the puzzle, also has an impressive musical resume. Joining forces with Evans (Guitar / Vocals) and Coady (Guitar / Vocals) was an easy decision. "I wanted something that was creatively stimulating, diversified and that allowed me to delve into the other colors of my playing, dynamics and different tempos ", the drummer explains. He found that and more in The Crash. "There are a lot of easier ways to make money than playing music ", understates singer / guitarist Jesse Evans, "but I never considered anything else ". That single-minded vision, begun when Evans first picked up the guitar at 11, and has paid off in the unequivocally original and organic rock 'n' roll lineup known as Jesse Evans and the Crash. With bassist Brian T. Coady and drummer Steve "Budgie " Werner comprising The Crash, the trio have been playing out to support their latest CD "HUNGER " to appreciative audiences hungry for uncompromising, unfettered, heartfelt rock. "We're not a "trend band ", explains Werner (Drums). "We play music for the soul. And it's not just for one generation; you don't have to be 20, you don't have to be 40; it's vibe music ". Timeless and timely, songs like "My World Is Changing " and "To Be Loved " benefit from vintage Marshalls, warm guitar tones, a strong infusion of blues both musically and lyrically. Their undeniable, memorable in-the-pocket groove has forged a sound and vision that has been stirring audiences in some of New York's grittier underground rock clubs. Jesse Evans and the Crash have been a unit since early 1997, but the songs have taken a lifetime to create…specifically, Evans' lifetime. His demons - including a one-time substance-abuse problem - have been exorcised in song. "To Be Loved " the tune that kicks off the band's new CD is a song about Evans' insatiable hunger for unyielding self expression, laced with the angst of a life long affair with his first mistress - music. "Superhypermost " looks outside for inspiration: specifically to Janis Joplin. "I read an article on her, and it was about how she would rather live 10 years 'superhypermost' than 75 years sitting in front of a television. "We have found our niche; it's not old-time rock 'n' roll ", concludes Evans. "There are a lot of new ideas and lyrically we have something to say. We have an uncompromising heart, and I believe more and more each day that if we continue to be true to ourselves, our musical dreams will become a reality ".
